Even though the weather hasn’t exactly been cooperating with the outdoor enthusiasts this year we have been trying to get out and enjoy it anyway. The kids have been taking advantage of the lovely ice that Marina Park has available and some of the not so nice ice that’s around the city. We know that the ice conditions can be totally blamed on the weather we had at the start of winter, but it has been improving nicely.
We recently took a trip to Balsam Pits to experience the joy and pure terror that comes with tobogganing. Nothing can be more Canadian or more insane then sitting on a hunk of plastic and going down an ice covered hill as fast as you can. I learned a valuable lesson on this trip; I am not as young as I think I am. Even though we left the hills feeling a little sore and battered the kids were in high spirits and wanting to do more. I left feeling like I needed a hot bath and some aspirin.
I was lucky enough to have gotten snowshoes for Christmas, just a shame that it hasn’t been until last week that I have actually been able to use them. Chris and I have done a trail at Trowbridge Falls and were impressed with the views of the partially frozen river and the quiet area. Once the snow began to fall we were able to get out and traverse the trails at Centennial Park. It was a bit frosty but stunning anyway. Hope you all have had a chance to get out and enjoy the winter weather.
