As much as I love having breakfast made for me and the possibility of relaxing and being spoiled all day by my kids and husband, I would much rather escape from the house that I am trapped in every other day of the week. We are still adjusting to the fact that we don’t have any family out here in Calgary with us which means that instead of making the rounds to see my mom and Chris’ mom, we had the day to ourselves to do with as we pleased.
Since we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine and the warmth of the day it was decided that we would venture forth and check out Calgary Zoo, which is something we all could enjoy and hopefully avoid the bickering of our two oldest. I was super happy to discover that the zoo welcomed outside food and drinks so we wouldn’t have to deal with the concession stand prices.
I have been to a number of zoo’s over the years, including the Winnipeg Zoo and the Edmonton Zoo. Each place had their own attractions and selling points, but our experience at the Calgary Zoo was fantastic and had things that I hadn’t seen at zoo’s previously. These included the penguin habitat where you could almost reach out a touch one of the little guys swimming around. The other area that I really enjoyed was the Lemur house where you actually got to walk around with the lemurs and see them up close. Our kids really enjoyed the zoo and seeing the animals so up close. It was exciting to see animals neither my husband or myself have seen before, like the pandas, and the hippos.
Since our trip to the zoo on Mother’s Day we have purchased memberships for our family and have actually gone back. It is really nice to be able to go to the zoo and take our time, there isn’t any pressure to see everything because we can always go back another day. The zoo has definitely become one of our families favourite places to go.
