We all get so wrapped up in things that we barely notice when our lives get stuck in a rut, where we continue to do the same old things day after day. Last week with March Break keeping the kids home we decided to break out of our rut and hunt down so new adventures in Thunder Bay.
First, the return of the winter weather made us want to hide indoors, so we decided that we would try the renovated Wiggles and Giggles building that is now called Maple Moose Adventures. I was surprised how different the interior looked. It was clean, the equipment looked well built, and there was lots for the kids to do. We ended up spending two hours there, which was well worth the $15 we spent on admission, and the kids managed to burn off pretty much every ounce of energy they had. What else surprised me was the menu. It was actually refreshing to see a place designed for kids have a healthy menu. They had fruit and veggie snacks, pizza that could be gluten-free and/or vegetarian, and there wasn’t even the choice of pop on their drink menu. We had the Mediterranean pizza which was made by hand and to order. We were very impressed with the improved indoor play area and we will definitely go back again.
I was also lucky enough to get my hands on Matt Sellicks new album, Nocturne. I have been a fan of Matt’s for quite some time now and I had been looking forward to the release of this album. There are very few songs where the music speaks for itself, let alone a complete album, but with Nocturne there are no lyrics to detract from the core impression the music makes. Flamenco music is layered with so many different elements in order to produce a magical sound that pulls you in and Matt’s style of Flamenco is no different. Each track on his album flows effortlessly from one to the next to give a rollercoaster of emotions and inspirations. I find that his music has the power to move you, and that I find refreshing.
On April 22nd Matt will be having an album release party at the Finlandia club. For more information on the event you can check out his Facebook page.
Nocturne is available for sale at Chapters and Take a Hike for $20 or you can purchase a copy online at www.indiepool.com/MSELLICK1
To continue on with the new, Chris and I tried Dim Sum this past weekend, which actually managed to live up to our expectations. Canton Chinese Restaurant is a little hidden gem on Arthur St. with the best Chinese food I have ever come across in Thunder Bay, but what sets them apart from any of the other restaurants is that Saturday and Sunday they serve a wide variety of Dim Sum. Since I have never had the pleasure of trying it before it’s a little hard to compare, but i can tell you that it was all delicious. We both highly recommend checking this place out whether it is just for Chinese food or for their Dim Sum menu.
We hope your March Break was filled with fun and new experiences. Happy Adventures.
